Crossfit kids do local gym proud

June 27, 2024

Recently a team of seven local youths compete in the Castle Games individual Crossfit competition.

The youths, aged between the 8 and 13, have been training with Goole-based Station 14 gym for a couple of years now and this was only the second kids competition the gym has entered. A gym spokesperson said: “We are so proud that all our entrants finished in the top 50 per cent, and three finished in the top ten. “Our only male competitor, Jack Kearney, finished first place on the podium in his age category.”

The competition consisted of either three or four different workouts, age dependent that tested skills in strength, stamina, gymnastics, speed and dedication. It was a very hard day with some amazing workouts to complete. These students attend the gym anywhere from one to three sessions a week and spend their spare time practicing at home and learning new skills. Crossfit is a multifunctional sport that mixes gymnastics and weightlifting with everyday exercises like running and sit-ups, with some box jumps and other elements added in. The spokesperson added: “It is all aimed at promoting a healthy body and attitude to life for the youths and hoping that this will follow them into adulthood. All their hard work and effort paid off last weekend and as a team we are so proud of them and how far they have come.” If anyone is interested in kids classes for ages 5-16, they can contact Station 14 Crossfit Goole on 07815 300526 where a member of the box will be happy to help. Alternatively they can contact the club on Facebook on the Station 14 Crossfit kids club page. (20-06-521 SU)
